Adrenaline Forest in Christchurch, New Zealand

Some attraction names are almost too good to be true. If you know anything about New Zealand, you know that it is a country full of thrill-seekers who love to be outdoors. If you plant to visit New Zealand anytime soon, you’ll discover that many of the tourist activities involve being outside and getting a rush from some new adventure. If you get around to Christchurch, “The Garden City” of New Zealand, you can find the tourist attraction that could almost serve as a summary of the nation: Adrenaline Forest.

There’s lots to see and do in the city of Christchurch, such as beautiful botanic gardens, museums, art exhibits, etc., but when you want to get a little more energetic in your touristic pursuits, head to Adrenaline Forest (if you don’t have your own transport, you can grab a hire car from Omega Rental Cars Christchurch).

Adrenaline Forest can be best described as a “multi-level aerial obstacle course,” so if you’re afraid of heights you’ll either want to stay with the easier challenges or pick this day to conquer your fear forever. Whatever you choose to do, it will be an unforgettable day as you tackle rope bridges, Tarzan swings and flying foxes from platforms that have been erected in the canopy of trees. In all, there are six pathways of progressive difficulty at Adrenaline Forest that cover about 2 km over 4 hectares of forest.

The challenges begin at the Discovery level, about two metres off the ground, and elevate to the Adrenaline Max level, where you will gallivant around at 6-20 metres, negotiating the Nepalese bridge, hanging loops and the 90-metre flying fox to conclude your adrenaline rush.

Attached by an overhead safety wire, you can negotiate up to 100 challenging activities as you bond with friends, family, co-workers or just a new group of tourists that you met moments before. Two cautions that should be mentioned are: 1) height restrictions apply for the more elevated rope pathways, so don’t plan on taking your small child to the top of the tree canopy; 2) With all of the tree cover, the forest can get a bit cool on even sunny days, so dress accordingly.

In addition, as you plan your time, block out about four hours to complete all of the pathways if you so desire. Finally, if you are not especially fit, even if you are able to conquer all of the challenges, you might be a bit stiff and sore the next day or two.

As for more selling points for Adrenaline Forest, reviews online reveal that the attraction gets high marks for its degree of difficulty and, most resounding, the freedom offered to participants, who don’t have to go at a guide’s pace and can even roam unaccompanied for hours. The staff has been found to be friendly, patient, professional and encouraging.
