The First Barrier-Free Accessible River Cruise

I am pleased to introduce here an exciting new concept in the travel industry, specifically designed for wheelchair users and the less mobile holidaymaker.

Accessible Travel & Leisure is proud to announce an innovative new concept to the travel industry. The arrival of the river cruise ship “The MS Alegria”.

The Alegria is a unique product, the only passenger ship which has been specifically adapted for the disabled market and sails on European waterways.

The Alegria offers a number of deluxe cabins with toilets and showers totally accessible by wheelchair. The ship’s spacious lift can take passengers in wheelchairs, scooters or using mobility aids from their cabin deck to the promenade deck, where the first class restaurant, library and cosy bar are located. The lifts also go up to the large sun deck, allowing the ship to be a totally barrier-free environment. The embarkation and disembarkation are fully wheelchair accessible and coach transfers from the UK are provided by adapted coaches.

The Alegria can sail the waterways and rivers of Holland and Belgium as well as the German Rhine river as far as Rudesheim, a well known resort on the beautiful Rhine Gorge, a river valley renowned for it’s vine clad slopes and ancient hill top castles, once owned by the infamous ” Robber Barons”.

The Alegria has a capacity for 100 passengers in 50 well appointed cabins and operates four cruises in 2011 from April to September, one visiting the bulb fields in the prime time of mid April to the splendours of the Rhine in September.

Accessible Travel & Leisure really believe this ship provides a genuine opportunity for wheelchair users and less mobile holiday makers, the chance to experience the wonders of a European river cruise on a ship designed and operated for their needs.

I have noticed throughout your site that you focus a lot on holidays for the disabled. Well done to you. Disabled and green holidays are two areas that the tourism industry has fell behind on.
