The largest of the Ionian Islands, Kefalonia is known for its mild climate and diverse topography. Keep your eye on the shore while you’re sitting on the beach—you just might spot a rare monk-seal or the popular loggerhead turtle!

History and Local Culture

There, excavations have unearthed Mycenaean cemeteries and incredible artifacts ranging from weapons, amber jewelry and precious stones. Chamber tombs have revealed vases and hundreds of smaller artifacts that can be seen in the Archaeological Museum in Argostoli. Be sure to visit the tombs at Mazarakata and take in the castle of Saint George, a truly stunning site.

Kefalonia has a vast array of wineries, some world famous. Take a tour of some of the most beautiful vineyards in the world: Metaxas Wine Estate, Gentilini Winery & Vineyards, Foivos Winery and Robolla Vineyards. You don’t have to be a wine lover to be able to appreciate the beauty of these vineyards and wineries! Everyone in your group will enjoy the breath-taking scenery.

You’ll have no trouble finding food and drink on the island. Nearly every city and village has an extensive list of fabulous diners, taverns and restaurants.
