Spend a Weekend in Minnesota

Minnesota weekend getaways are ideal for those people who want to do something different for a change. There is plenty to do here, and depending on the season, you can plan your trip accordingly. People who love the cold and snow may want to visit in the winter months to take part in one of the many outdoor activities. Those who aren’t keen on winter sports, but still want to spend time sightseeing, can plan a getaway for the summer. Of course, it all depends on where in Minnesota you plan on visiting, but rest assured, you will most definitely not be bored.

Many people make plans for a weekend getaway just for the shopping. They head to the largest mall in the US, the Mall of America, which is located in Bloomington. This shopping experience will be like no other you have ever had because there have never been so many stores, shops and restaurants under one roof. The mall even has an amusement park located in the center. The kids can even enjoy a game or two of miniature golf while you are shopping because the course is located in the mall. So, if shopping is in your blood, this is a good reason to head to Minnesota for the weekend.

Minnesota has the Viking NFL team, the Minnesota Twins baseball club, and the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team, so the sports enthusiast will find plenty to do on a weekend here. There may be a home game scheduled for the weekend you are visiting, so get tickets well in advance if you want to go because the “locals” love attending these games. If you wait to get your tickets when you arrive, you may be disappointed to find that there are none available. You can check online for game schedules, and get your tickets the same way.

If you are a golfer, you might want to spend your weekend getaway in the area of Alexandria, which is located in west-central Minnesota. There are a total of seven golf courses in and around this area, so there is sure to be one that will suit your needs. Alexandria is also home to “Big Ole,” the Viking statue that will greet you when you arrive. You can book your weekend at any one of several fine hotels or resorts located here through your travel agency when you get ready to plan your vacation. He or she can also suggest other entertainment that the whole family can participate in. Have a great time in Minnesota.
