Planning next year’s vacation now is not such a bad idea. This is especially true when you are planning to go to somewhere very new. So while you are at it, why not build in a great vacation rental?
We are considering going to Scotland next year. It is some place we have always wanted to see and the time is right. So it is time to start looking for a place to stay and activities to enjoy.
We are looking at several vacation rental sites to find the perfect family retreat. My wife has fallen in love with Pilrig House, which actually has several different room options available. Robert Louis Stevenson’s grandfather lived there, so in addition to a great location there is some wonderful history to the place.
The house sits in a park like setting yet you are within walking distance to public transportation. I think the thing that has really sold her though is the hosts are around to answer questions and even help you get the hang of driving on the left side of the road.
I’m holding out for the apartment that sits right beside Edinburgh Castle. I am a history buff, so this is the perfect location for me. There is so much history in just this one location. The last monarch to sleep here was in 1611. What a sight to wake up to every day, a castle that has been around for centuries. I could spend a whole day just touring the castle. I sure we will be able to come to some sort of compromise.
Both of these locations seem like wonderful places to stay. They are both booked solid for this year and already have a few days marked off for next year. So we will need to make a decision in the next few months.
We now need to pick a time to go. I know we won’t be going before June of 2011, so that eliminates the spring months. We also are going to avoid the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo that takes place in August. We would like to see Scotland for the first time without the extra crowds. Although the Tattoo sounds like an extraordinarily good time.
So it looks like it will be June or July for our visit. We still have more planning to do. How much time we want to spend in country, and where we want to go. It sounds like there is plenty to do in Edinburgh alone to occupy us for a couple of weeks, but I am sure we will venture out into the countryside.
So wish us luck as we plan our next vacation rental travel to a new land. I can’t wait to start reading about the country and places to go visit. I am sure we will continue to look at vacation rentals, although my wife is digging her heels in firmly on Pilrig House. I may have to threaten her with a Braveheart marathon to get her to see the logic of my choice.

Planning ahead of time offers or gives too many advantages. I like this idea of planning ahead. Really keeps my head cool and save me lots of headache.
