Situated on the banks of the River Clyde is Scotland’s largest city and the third largest city in the UK, Glasgow. Historically, Glasgow has played second fiddle to Edinburgh when it comes to attracting tourists but this is changing rapidly as more visitors discover this under-appreciated jewel. It is also one of the primary economic centers in the UK outside of the Greater London area and business travel is common. There is plenty to do and, as with any city, there are plenty of places to stay, including high quality hotels and a number of delightful bed and breakfasts. So for those of you who have never been to Glasgow before, we’ve compiled a list of some great B&B’s that we think you might like to try when visiting this historic city:
The Kelvin – located in the heart of Glasgow’s vibrant West End, The Kelvin features airy bedrooms, tastefully painted in soft pastels. Additionally, some have en suite facilities for larger groups of family and friends. All of them have TV’s and vanity units. You can also reserve free parking and take advantage of free Wi-Fi.
McLay’s Guest House – only a 15-minute walk from the Central Station, this B&B offers front desk facilities like the major hotels do. They serve a great breakfast between 7am and 9 am which is perfect to set you up for a long day of sight-seeing or business meetings. There are also numerous bars, restaurants, and retail shops located nearby so you won’t have far to go should you want to explore.
Botanic Hotel Glasgow – spacious guestrooms and a 24-hour front desk are the highlights of this B&B. You’re only a 5-minute walk from the Botanical Gardens which is ideal if you have a love for nature but don’t fancy a long journey to get there. You’ll be treated to a full Scottish breakfast each morning and there are a number of pubs and restaurants nearby to keep you well fed throughout your stay. Staff members are on hand to make recommendations if you prefer.
Willow Guest House – situated in an ideal location right in the heart of Glasgow and only a 15-minute walk from Glasgow’s Central Rail Station. Every type of bar, restaurant, and shop are all within a 10-minute walk from the Willow. Each guestroom is brightly decorated and equipped with a TV and the dining room serves a cooked breakfast of eggs, toast, and coffee or tea every morning.
Georgian House – this guest house has one of the better locations in the city and is only minutes away from attractions like the Botanical Gardens and the University of Glasgow. Recently refurbished, the Georgian House is located in the West End and offers guests free private parking and free Wi-Fi. For transportation around the greater Glasgow area, the subway stations at Hillhead and Kelvinbridge are within walking distance.
Hampton Court Guesthouse – centrally located and renowned for their friendly staff, this guesthouse offers a choice of a continental or full-on Scottish breakfast every morning. There are also numerous bed and breakfast for sale should you want to settle in the city and offer accommodation to tourists and business travelers. One thing to consider though is that Tourism in Scotland is highly seasonal and business travelers will need to be a major part of your business model id you want to make a success of it.
