Of the many different link building strategies one could put together, it would not hurt to add your links to the various travel directories online. Just be sure, however, that your selection of travel directories is one that is a wise choice. You will want a directory that certainly delivers on expectations in terms of the SEO impact you attain.

Granted, there are no directories that you should outright avoid to ignore. All travel directories have their value and, in time, any and all links placed on such directories will be crawled by the search engine robots. This means that you will experience a boost in your search engine traffic and rankings as a result. However, it is also important to point out that those SEO Friendly Travel Directories that are established and have good amount of visitors will be the ones worth putting your links into the most.

What is meant by SEO friendly? To a degree, it could means the design of the directory is such that it is much easier for the search engine robots to index all the links. However, it can also mean that the directory itself is well ranked in the search engines and maintains a high page rank. Since the site has a high page rank, it will provide more “juice” to your website which, in turns, means the website will experience a significant amount of SEO benefits as a result.

So, what are some of the top, SEO friendly travel directories? There are quite a few and they can include TripOriginator.com, TouristClick.com, FlightStats.com, TravelWebDir.com, iTravelNet.com, HolidayGoer.com and WorldWeb.com. Again, there are scores of other travel directories out there you can explore. All decent directories will have some value as far as search engine optimization goes. However, those directories which are decently ranked in the search engine would be one worth exploring first. Again, you want to get the most benefit as possible from the inclusion of your links. This means you need to look towards those sites with the best and highest search engine rankings.

Just be aware that contributing to your ability to get the most SEO benefit from the process will be how user-friendly the site is in regards to submissions. Do you have to wait 90 days for the link submission to be approved? If so then you might not want to put too much faith into any immediate benefits from such a directory.  This is not to say you ignore such directories. Popular ones might have a backlog that makes immediate inclusion difficult. However, you need to be aware of the problems inherent with such travel directories.

SEO friendly travel directories are out there. You may need to be diligent in your search for them but the end result could prove to be worthwhile. After all, a significant boost in your own website’s search engine ranking and traffic could prove to be the end result.

Although its a bit hard to be listed at DMOZ , but I think its worth the effort to submit at the directory. Once listed at DMOZ under travel category, then site authority will follow.

Some good directories referenced here and all worthwhile looking into. If you have a blog to accompany your travel site another great idea is to list your blog with the blog directories in the same way. Blog content tends to change regularly and therefore gets ranked highly with the likes of Google. Its a great way to drive traffic to your travel site!

    Good point Keely

We don’t have a blog but are interested in Guest blogging for other travel sites, especially as most sites are short on info about our particular area (Marcoola Beach, Sunshine Coast) In our internet research we did come across blogcatalog.com which has a great resource of blogs. What others do you recommend?

I will try the directories you suggested. I am getting fed up of trying to find decent ones. Even the ones that charge you, most of them are no follow from the front page and their traffic rank is so low. Congrats on yours BTW.
