  • Windermere

Windermere is England’s largest lake at 10 ½ miles long and just a mile from the lake is a pretty village. Nestled in the valley between various fells is Ambleside, a charming area that is a hotspot for walkers. Take a boat from Waterhead to capture some of the amazing water wildlife and travel to Bowness which has a rustic railway station and charming little shops.

This old market town is one of the most beautiful parts of England. It is the perfect base for walkers and has a variety of local shops. The town’s history and culture make it a very popular destination and it has a vast array of attractions including museums, art galleries and leisure facilities.

Penrith is the second gateway to the Lakes and is ideal to explore scenic lakes and fells. The old town was originally built in 500 BC and it is home to the ancient site of King Arthur’s Round Table.

  • Coniston

Coniston is a charming little village which sits at the foot of Coniston Old Man, the seventh highest mountain in England. It is a very peaceful place with a few shops and cafes, and it is very serene.

Coniston Water is around half a mile from the village and the Eastern Fells of Fairfield & Helvellyn dominate the glorious views at the head of the lake. John Ruskin’s home is open to visit with its beautiful gardens.

  • Grasmere

Grasmere is a lovely little village that sits at the foot of some spectacular fells. It has its own lake, many quaint pubs and shops and you must try some of the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread.

Visit Wordsworth’s grave in the churchyard, hire a rowing boat in the summer time, and go for a walk along Red Bank Road. To the west of Rydal Water is a huge cave which is extremely enchanting and often pretty reflections can be seen in the lake.
