A couple of decades ago and there were great fears that the typical British vacation was about to die out. Budget airlines entered the scene, and a wave of Brits started to travel to the likes of the Costa del Sol for much of their annual leave.
Fortunately for the British economy, things appear to be changing “back to normal”. While trips abroad are most definitely still on the agenda, there does seem to have been a recent rise in interest for the Great British staycation.
Bearing this in mind, let’s take a look at some of the reasons why this industry has been fueled so much over recent times.

Would you rather take bored kids in the comfort of your own people carrier, or a cramped Ryanair flight? The answer is pretty obvious.
Sure, there was something of a novelty of traveling abroad at first, but now most people appreciate the simplicity that staying in the UK can bring.
Hotels have also caught up with their foreign counterparts as well. Whether you look for accommodation in Bournemouth, or somewhere in the completely other side of the country, the establishments have got it mastered when it comes to catering for the kids. The vast majority know that it’s absolutely crucial to their business, and everything from their rooms to their on-site facilities are tailored to this.
The pet-factor
There might be some raised eyebrows at this next point, but another one of the reasons why a lot of people are opting to stay at home is so that their pets can come along. Again, taking Ryanair as an example, it’s just not possible to take along your furry friend. Head to Bournemouth meanwhile, and you can bring the whole clan.
Considering the immense costs that are associated with kenneling and other forms of pet care, don’t underestimate this element.
It can be planned into your annual leave perfectly
Usually, you’re no more than a couple of hours drive from your UK destination. It means that the days of taking weeks off work at a time are long gone. Most people can take a couple of days off and still have a very good time, particularly if it is pushed into a weekend.
The UK is actually pretty cool
Finally, one shouldn’t underestimate the UK and what it has to offer.
We might bemoan the weather at times, and rightly so. In other words, if you are looking for a beach break, just don’t get your hopes up.
However, if you play to the country’s strengths, it’s very much possible to enjoy a fantastic time on UK soil. As we have already alluded to, a lot of places are accustomed to families, with the country boasting umpteen kids’ attractions in all different regions. If you are traveling as a couple, let’s not forget the history that the UK brings; it’s a country which has one of the seven original wonders of the world, after all.
