Summer is the best season to travel; kids are out of school, bosses are more understanding of taking vacation time, and the warm weather provides a more relaxed atmosphere overall. San Diego is no exception, and the relatively mild weather makes for an even better summer vacation! The beautiful weather attracts hordes of tourists and visitors, as well as college kids off for the summer, and locals taking advantage of their proximity to the great vacation spots. Here are a few tips for spending some or all of your summer on a sunny San Diego vacation!
Flights
The key to enjoying an affordable trip is when you book your flight. Since the San Diego airport is small, as are the majority of southwest airports, flights can get expensive. Many airlines do not have large enough planes to make the transcontinental trip, which is why there are price spikes and many layovers. Book your flight in January to get some of the best summer deals! If it is already too late for that, keep an eye on JetBlue and Southwest as you get closer to booking your flight-they offer some pretty good last minute deals.
Accommodations
No matter how you slice it, accommodations can get pretty pricey. If you’re looking for low-cost alternatives, considering camping; regardless, you should spend a few days shopping around for the best deals. For close proximity to downtown, Coronado hotel rates are very affordable and still quite luxurious, and Coronado hotels are a good alternative to staying in the hustle and bustle of the city.
Choose a Month
If you have heard the terms, “May Gray,” and “June Gloom,” you probably think you might want to avoid these months. It generally gets nice and sunny by midday, but the morning is layered with a thick marine fog. If you want sunshine 24/7, consider July-August. July is a very refreshing month in San Diego, while August and September are the warmest months of the year.
Things You Can’t Miss
The San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park are two of the most popular San Diego attractions. If you even remotely enjoy Zoos or animals, these are highly recommended. SeaWorld is another great place to check out while you’re in town. La Jolla Shores Cove hosts one of the most beautiful views in the entire country, with plenty of sea creatures for your viewing pleasure. Coronado Island is another great place to visit, and the main beach has some of the most beautiful sand and water in the state, all within walking distance of a Coronado hotel! It is also a great place to take the family for a day out as there is a quaint town in walking distance of the shore.

Sounds like a great place to go but the fact that you mentioned flights and accomodation can be expensive puts me off. My idea of having fun is not camping!
